Why Kundalini Yoga? To feel better?

I fell in love with Yoga a long while ago.

Like most people I started with Vinyasa Yoga and got even pretty ambitious about perfecting the poses. It has always made me feel better.

But to be honest I am not such a flowy person. I still love Vinyasa, don´t get me wrong. But sometimes I just don´t feel elegant or flowy – then I feel like I can´t transit from one pose to another. Then I just feel like an elephant or it gives me the same feeling as being back in an aerobics class and mixing up the whole class when tripping over stuff und bumping into people the whole time.

I love working out!

There you work with reps and sets. It doesn´t have to flow and look elegant. The first time doing Kundalini Yoga I felt like it was a Yoga Workout. It has a structure and always the same beginning and end.

I also love that there are pre-made routines that are good for certain things, like depression, mind health, inner glow, outer glow, liver, clearing toxins…whatever you can imagine basically.

Yogi Bajan brought Kundalini Yoga to the west and he made those sets – about which he said to perfom according to his instructions and not to change them. You could do them shorter. But that is the only alteration allowed.

Kundalini Yoga is simply the uncoiling of yourself to find your potential and your vitality and to reach your virtues. There is nothing outside, everything is you. You are the storehouse of your totality.

I love that about Kundalini Yoga, also as all the sets (called Kriyas) have a certain purpose, you are supposed to do the same one for 40 days in a row and I mean in a row and not when you have time. If you miss a day – you go straight back to day 1.

That is because the body needs that to feel the real effect of the movement to process and implement the information received by the Kriya for the benefits to unfold.

Kundalini Yoga is said to be a science about the 7 chakras, the energy centers in the body, and with the aura. It teaches to control the energy rather to be controlled by it. It´s ultimate goal is to activate Kundalini, which is basically the stage of enlightenment where you are conscious and can use the total amount of our creative potential. It is not just about training the body, but about the body, mind and spirit connection. It is about a balance on our inside, outside and between those two.

Kundalini Yoga also works a lot with Mantras, using the vibration the pronunciation produces when we say the words. They can affect our body as well as have healing functions.

That is also why I love Kundalini Meditations – it has always been hard for me to just listen to guided meditations or to just observe my breath. I know everybody likes different things, but using the mantras I can occupy myself with saying the mantra or sometimes even with a movement and that really helps to focus and not drift off.

I feel like it sounds super spiritual right now, that is not what it is. It is a practice for everyone who wants to improve same part of his /her life.

I feel like no matter what situation I am in there is a Kundalini Set (Kriya) for it. And I can feel that it has an effect on me!

It calms me down and it seems to have a solution or some sort of advice and help for every situation. As it is yoga, meditation and also body care – it is even a lifestyle. As it gives also suggestions for food, skin care, mindset and personal development.
