Bed of Nails for Wellbeing and Tinnitus Relief!

Doesn´t it hurt?

It depends of what level of pain we are talking about and how you use them.

But why do it if it could hurt at some point?

Have you seen this guy?

They literally used a bed of nails back in the day.

The mystical bed of nails originated over 1,000 years ago and was used by gurus in the practice of meditation and healing. – Bed of Nails

Sounds like torture?

Of course nowadays it is not an actual bed of nails anymore. Watch my video about it below:

In the video I hadn´t used BON (Bed of Nails) yet, read below why I prefer BON now!

But back to our question about why to do it even though it could hurt…

According to BON it  may help with the following when used regularly:

  • Improve circulation
  • Increase energy level
  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Alleviate headache and malaise
  • Relieve tension and muscle aches
  • Improve sleep and relieve insomnia
  • Relieve chronic neck and back pain
  • Activate the parasympathetic nervous system
  • Benefit weight loss by reducing cortisol levels
  • Improve heart rate variability
  • Revitalize and rejuvenate
  • Improve skin complexion
  • Relieve constipation
  • Alleviate cellulite

I have been using the acupressure mat “Bed of Nails” the last few weeks and I absolutely love it.

It is a Scandinavian company, whose founder Carina Tannenberg also suffers from Tinnitus.

She created something that helps with tinnitus as the acupressure mat brings down stress levels – hence keeping tinnitus at bay.

In 2009, Carina brought the first, original acupressure mat from
Sweden to the US and UK. In 2010 she worked to redesign it, adding additional nails for more effect and more comfort. BON is a
self-treatment tool that helps the body rid itself of toxins by
stimulating energy. It is the perfect compliment to any health and
wellness routine for women and men of all ages looking to improve
their energy and reduce chronic pain or fatigue. The BON acupressure
nails release oxytocin and endorphins to relieve pain and induce a
state of wellbeing, as well as trigger the body’s innate way of
healing itself.

So what is the mat like?

Bed of Nails is an excellent aid in self-treatment that helps stimulate energy in the body. While triggering the body’s innate way of healing itself, it is an effective tool for easing tension and inducing a state of deep relaxation. Bed of Nails is similar to acupuncture; the pressure of the rounded nails against the skin may help the body release endorphins, the body’s very own “happiness drug” which provides a sense of joy, energy and pain relief, and oxytocin, which makes you feel calm and relaxed (yes, it is possible to feel energetic and be relaxed at the same time!) – Bed of Nails

It has like about 300 hard-plastic round flower-like looking shapes attached to a colored mat. Each plastic flower has hard plastic spikes on it. The pillow is half-round and seems to fit exactly in the neck, it also as the same plastic-spiked flowers on it.

It comes also with practical bags to take the mat with you anywhere you want.

The best part about it- you can use the mat anywhere you want!

How to use it?

Use your Bed of Nails when needed, preferably daily for 10 to 20 minutes, or as long as you desire. As a new user it might be better to lie for a shorter period of time, until the body gets used to the nails. It is completely harmless to lie for a longer period of time or even to fall asleep on it. Everyone is different, so it is key that you find the best way to use your BON. – Bed of Nails

So what did I think of it?

Well, I have to say I was no newbie to acupressure mats when I started using Bed of Nails. But the pillow form was new to me.

I use it usually a like 5-10 min. in the morning during savasana (the corps pose at the end of a yoga practice) and then before I go to sleep for like 15 to 20 min.

Depending on the degree of impact you want you can use it with clothes on or not, I personally don´t like that because I am also that kind of person that feels like a massage has to hurt just the right amount that I feel like it helps. So I always lay down without any clothes on.

I love the pillow as I almost always have a tight neck and I place it under my neck so that it hits exactly the right spots!

I myself have had the experience that it can loosen my tight neck and relief headaches.

That was the main reason I wanted that pillow and is also the reason why I love it! Because it delivers what it promises!

I can also feel how I can relax on the mat, after the first moments of some aching I can let go completely, getting off the mat hurts for a moment and then ahhhhhhhhhh – the amazing feeling sets in! It is the weirdest mixture of feeling relaxed and full of energy at the same time. It happens to me quickly that I feel burned out, the mat seems to help with that.

Of course there I have to say it again, that consitant use is curicial for those effects and for the effects to last.

I keep using it, as I can feel a difference to when I´m not using it. Especially neck pain and tense muscle wise. Oh yes, and relaxation-wise also!

And another thing I love about it, is that there isn´t only one way to use it!

take it where ever you go

Use it sitting on a chair for your back or even in the car or to prefent tightness or tension to set it. I am someone that stresses out when driving so it brings relief to me already while I am driving, not letting it get to that point being all stiff after a long drive.

Use it with your feet for reflexology, it is a technique based on the believe that certain points of the feet are connect to specific organs and body systems and by stimulating them through pressing them it can create health benefits for the corresponding part of the body.

Use it the classic way and lay on it for all the benefits that are listed above.

Use it after a workout to relax the muscles right after the workout to not let soreness set in!

The points I listed above are preventive – but I also use it when I have some aches and pains to treat those. For example when I have a headache or my neck hurts from all the tightness.

Use it during yoga to work on letting go more and loosing the muscles even more during some poses.

It comes with a practical bag – to take it with you! Love it!
